Lean Six Sigma Certification: How to Get Lean in Six Sigma Style
What is Lean Six Sigma, or LSS? Many people have it mixed up with Six Sigma, however, these are two different methodologies.
Lean Six Sigma appeared recently, as a result of a merge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodology. The idea behind Lean Six Sigma is a combination the Lean's waste elimination approach and the Six Sigma focus on quality characteristics and improvement of process outcomes. Lean Six Sigma combines all the Lean and Six Sigma tools with a focus of waste removal.
According to Lean Six Sigma methodology, as the waste is removed, the productivity rises, process outcomes improve, and so is the company's bottom line.
Lean Six Sigma Certification
When it comes to Lean Six Sigma Certification, many candidates find the approach confusing. Just like with Six Sigma, Lean Six Sigma certification layout is based on the belt system. Lean Six Sigma Belts are Lean Six Sigma certification levels which reflect the skills and professional competencies of Lean Six Sigma certified professionals. Lean Six Sigma Belts include:
- Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt
- Lean Six Sigma Black Belt
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt
- Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt
- Lean Six Sigma White Belt
While the belt levels are clear, the confusion lies in the fact that Lean Six Sigma certification does not have a centralized certifying body, or the official organization that conducts the training and issues credentials. With Lean Six Sigma certification approach, LSS is first of all the methodology and the collection of knowledge, and not necessarily the set of formal credentials.
Most formal Lean Six Sigma certifications are issued in-house. This means that most companies who use LSS methodology in their daily operations and run Lean Six Sigma projects, have their own certification program and certify their employees as Lean Six Sigma professionals.
